iCloud Drive Costs
iCloud Drive Costs

Today, we have a special treat for all those who wish to trim their digital expenses without sacrificing storage needs. The focus? iCloud Drive storage for your family. If you’re a part of a family using Apple devices, the chances are that everyone needs some iCloud storage space. Rather than each family member paying for individual storage plans, let’s explore a smarter, more economical way.

Family Sharing: A Collective Approach

Apple’s Family Sharing feature is the key to saving on iCloud Drive storage for your family. By setting up Family Sharing, you can share a single iCloud storage plan amongst up to six family members. This collective approach can significantly reduce the overall cost while ensuring everyone has the storage they need.

Setting Up Family Sharing

Here’s a quick guide on how to set up Family Sharing and share an iCloud storage plan:

  1. Initiate Family Sharing: On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > [Your Name] > Set Up Family Sharing. Follow the onscreen instructions. Choose iCloud Storage when asked what you’d like to share.
  2. Choose a Plan: After setting up Family Sharing, you’ll be prompted to select an iCloud storage plan. Choose a plan that will provide enough storage for your entire family.
  3. Invite Family Members: Once you’ve selected a plan, invite your family members to join the Family Sharing group. They can then access the shared storage by going to Settings > [Their Name] > iCloud > Manage Storage > Change Storage Plan > Share with Family.

Things to Note

  • Everyone’s files are kept private unless explicitly shared.
  • If you already pay for an iCloud storage plan, once you upgrade to a shared family plan, your personal payment will cancel, and the family organizer will start being billed.

Switching to a shared iCloud Drive storage plan can help your family save money and simplify billing. If your family’s iCloud storage needs are collectively less than or equal to 2TB, this is a strategy worth considering.
